Working with Us
The Chung Group is always searching for talented and highly motivated individuals to join our team. Please check out the Research page to understand our research interests and the desirable research background and necessary skills to make a dent in those areas!
In return, our group is dedicated to providing the best research and training environment. In addition to mentorship by the PI, our team also provides peer-to-peer coaching. Our work is collaborative and you will have ample opportunities to meet with open-minded colleagues from other faculties and schools who are passionate about their research and creative in making impactful discoveries.
We also welcome visiting scholars and exchange students to come to our group for short-term knowledge exchange and technology transfer. As our team grows, we will have the capability to host undergraduates for short-term research projects in our group during the summer.
🧑🔬 Current Openings
We particularly welcome researchers with solid experience in mass spectrometry or large dataset mining (e.g., UK Biobank) from all disciplines. Our team primarily uses R for computation. If you meet some of these criteria and are interested in joining us, please send your CV and a short description of your research interests and skills, as well as your career goal to jake.chung[at]cuhk.edu.hk or jakemk.work+hiring[at]gmail.com.
A) Research associate / postdoctoral fellow
We are actively seeking a senior member who is interested in chemical exposomics and determined to conduct foundational work using affinity-based methods and high-resolution mass spectrometry. Candidates with strong technical know-how and experience in conducting suspect screening analysis (SSA) or untargeted metabolomics with Orbitrap LC-MS would have an advantage. Please also check out our functional exposomics commentary to understand our vision and the impact we hope to achieve. Outstanding candidates should also apply for the RGC Junior Research Fellow Scheme (formerly known as the RGC Postdoctoral Fellowship Scheme). Further details are posted here.
B) Research assistant
We are hiring a research assistant with a background in analytical chemistry/biochemistry/chemical biology, or related fields. Working experience with environmental and/or biological samples and an interest in exposomics will be highly beneficial. Job duties include but are not limited to: general administrative and supportive tasks, developing standard operating procedures and conducting chemical and protein analysis under the guidance of the PI, and assisting with active projects in the group.
C) PhD student
Additionally, we are looking for a bright and smart PhD student in the area of environmental epidemiology/environmental health/environmental health data science, with interests and experience in conducting either EDC/metabolome analysis (wet lab) or omics/GxE analysis (dry lab). Suitable candidate with a relevant background may work as a research assistant for a short period in our group to prepare for undertaking a PhD study at CUHK. Outstanding individuals should apply for the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme, which can provide an annual stipend of 331 200 HKD (~42 460 USD) for up to three years.
D) Student helper
We are looking for a skilled junior member with a keen interest in exposomics to assist with ongoing projects. Master or undergraduate students at CUHK with competency in either dry lab skills (e.g., R, data science) or wet lab techniques (e.g., ELISA, chemical and protein measurement) are welcome to apply. More information about the Student Helper Engagement Scheme is available here.
